Last Tuesday, Belinda and I stopped into a small bar/venue in London called the Borderline to see a concert by Allan Doyle. Now Allan is another Canadian that we are all soooo proud of. He and a small group of fellow Newfoundlanders formed a small east cost folk music group a few years ago called Great Big Sea They became very successful all over the world and still are. It appears that Allan has decided to write and perform some stuff on his own. I say his own, but the band he has assembled is very very accomplished. The concert was wonderful, sold out. Allan was obviously thrilled to be back in London and seemed a bit humbled by the fact that the venue sold out … most of us were thrilled to think we could get a ticket ….Next time hopefully he’ll be in the Barbican or somewhere like that, accoustics that do them justice. He played a few GBS songs that everyone in the place sang along with … at high volume. His own material was also great, really nice honest feel to it. So we had a great time, and thanks to the London underground and little traffic on the M11 were home to wonderful Norwich by 1 am! It was great, so pround to see honest true Canadians like this doing so well. Keep up the good work and hopefully we will see you again. Anyone in Canada who reads this, get out and see them and then tell me what you thought!
